The Mission of St. Ignatius
A time to step away from the distractions of daily life, and prepare for spiritual renewal..
St. Ignatius of Loyola began his life as a soldier, known for his courage and pride for his country. During a military campaign in 1521, he was severely wounded when a cannonball shattered his leg. This injury led to a long recovery, during which Ignatius, confined to his bed, began reading about the life of Christ and the saints. These readings inspired a profound conversion, and he dedicated his life to serving God. He later developed the Spiritual Exercises, consisting of a set of meditations, scriptures, prayers, examen, and contemplative practices designed to deepen one's relationship with God and discern His will.
The Spiritual Exercises are at the heart of Ignatian spirituality and serve as a guiding tool for individuals navigating major life transitions, seeking to discover the mission God is calling them to, or desiring a deeper intimacy with Christ. They are also beneficial for those needing inner healing, though their application is not limited to these areas. Ultimately, the Exercises help us recognize Christ's presence and work in the everyday moments of our lives.
